Abandoned Developer Admits PS5 App Was A ‘Disaster,’ Insists Game Isn’t Silent Hill

PS5 console exclusive game Abandoned has been the source of much confusion and mystery since it was first revealed. Conspiracy theories have suggested that Abandoned is secretly a Hideo Kojima game with possible connections to Silent Hill, while the game's PS5 app – meant to showcase its first proper trailer and eventually offer a playable demo – has been plagued by technical problems. Now one of Abandoned's developers have opened up about the PS5 app launch, calling it a "disaster."

Abandoned developer Hasan Kahraman of Blue Box Game Studios recently spoke about the game with NME, admitting that the PS5 app launch was "a really big disaster." Kahraman also acknowledged that people are really disappointed with how the app situation went down. For the uninitiated, the Abandoned PS5 app was supposed to go live on August 10, only for it to get delayed at the last minute due to unforeseen technical issues. And when it finally did go live, it showed the same Abandoned teaser that had already been revealed on Blue Box's social media channels.

This was apparently due to technical issues that the developers couldn't get resolved, and so the decision was made to put the short teaser on the app in an attempt to satisfy those who were growing impatient for an update. In future, the Abandoned PS5 app will theoretically have more content for fans to look forward to, though it remains to be seen if that will go off without a hitch.

First up will be an Abandoned cinematic trailer, which should give fans more insight into what the game is actually about and what they can expect from the overall experience. Apparently, Kahraman told NME more about Abandoned's plot, but asked the outlet not to divulge details. However, NME was able to confirm that, based on Kahraman's explanation, Abandoned is not a secret Silent Hill or Metal Gear Solid game. It's not even a full-blown horror game, but rather an action game with some horror elements throughout.

Sometime after the Abandoned cinematic trailer, fans will get the chance to try the game out for themselves in the form of a playable prologue. Kahraman suggested that it's possible these updates could come around Gamescom 2021 later this month, but is hesitant to provide a specific date due to all of the issues the Abandoned PS5 app has had. This way, whenever the long-awaited Abandoned update does come, fans will be pleasantly surprised instead of disappointed by it not meeting a deadline.

Abandoned is in development for PC and PS5.
