VidCon 2021 has officially been cancelled, after originally being scheduled for October 22 to 24. This is the second year in a row the convention has been cancelled, and comes as cases of COVID-19 continue to surge across the US, with deaths also on the rise.
Any single-day tickets will automatically be refunded. Anyone who purchases another form of ticket can request a refund up until June 3, 2022, but will otherwise have their ticket transferred to the next VidCon.

The full statement from VidCon general manager, Jim Louderback, reads as follows:
"We were so confident that we'd be able to put on the VidCon you know and love this October and could not wait to reconnect with all of you IRL. Unfortunately, due to the recent increases in COVID-19 cases and evolving health and safety mandates, we have come to the difficult but right decision to cancel VidCon this October. We just can't risk the health and safety of our attendees, creators, speakers, sponsors, and staff — and we want to ensure we provide EVERYONE with the very best VidCon experience. We really, really can't wait to see you in June 2022!"
VidCon 2022 will be held in the Anaheim Convention Center, and is scheduled to take place June 22 to 25. The cancellation of the 2021 event is unsurprising, given the spread of the Delta variant of COVID-19, as well as California's incredibly high case rate. The state currently has the highest total amount of cases across the country, sitting at 4.3 million since the pandemic began.
While many expected 2021 to be free of such delays and cancellations, the spread of the more contagious and deadly Delta variant has once again affected the way conventions operate. Most recently, PAX West had to reverse its plans for a mostly COVID restriction-free event, and is now requiring that all attendees show proof of vaccination or a negative test before entering. Face masks will also need to be worn throughout the event.
