Xbox Cloud Gaming will soon expand its horizons. It is coming to Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles later this year.
Following its success on Android mobile – and more recently on iOS and PC via browsers – Microsoft reiterated at its Gamescom 2021 conference that the Xbox Cloud Gaming service is critical to the firm. It will support Xbox consoles in addition to the three platforms that have previously been tested.
Xbox Game Pass in the cloud
Users will be able to test the more than 100 video games in the Xbox Game Pass library simply by running them directly remotely via the Internet. This means that anybody can enjoy them more quickly with the touch of a button. All you’ll need is a reliable internet connection, but you won’t have to worry about storage or hardware.
The option to install them on consoles will be accessible, but it will be simpler to try them out and see whether they are useful, and you won’t have to wait for them to be installed before getting behind the controls. Anyone with an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate membership just needs to click the “Play” button. That’s it!
Microsoft announced that the service will deliver 1080p quality and 60FPS. So you won’t get 4K, at least at the start of the cloud streaming on consoles. Regardless, this is excellent news for anyone who doesn’t own an Xbox Series X, doesn’t have the capacity to buy the games digitally individually, or wants a console gaming experience away from home.
My Take
Your Xbox One console just got a second life. Even though it won’t output at 4K, you are going to be able to play Series X games through the Cloud Gaming service. That’s pretty sweet.
