Destiny 2: Xur Exotic Armor, Weapon, and Recommendations for August 27

Quick Links

The week most Destiny 2 fans were waiting for finally arrived as Bungie spilled the beans on a ton of new and upcoming content. First up, the studio finally revealed The Witch Queen, not only revealing a brand new cinematic trailer, but confirming Savathun's Throne World as the next destination. The newe Glaive weapon, which is a melee gun, is coming though fans will need to use the new weapon crafting system to make it rather than loot one from the world.

In addition to the reveal event, Season of the Lost kicked off in full, acting more as a prequel to the Witch Queen expansion than most people likely assumed. The Awoken Queen Mara Sov has returned as well as the full reveal of just what Savathun has been doing these past few seasons. Naturally, fans have a wealth of new content and challenges to work through as well as new exotic items to uncover such as the Lorentz Driver, Radient Dance Machines, No Backup Plans, and more.

With a lot to get to following the new season, the weekend exotic gear merchant Xur has also made his return to Destiny 2. Follow this guide for his most current weekend location, news on his exotic cypher quest, as well as a review of all the exotic gear he's brought for the weekend of August 27, 2021.

Where is Xur?

One again this weekend, Xur is back inside of the Hangar at the Tower.

As usual, fast travel to the main Tower location and head left into the Hangar. Once there, take another left and move past the Dead Orbit section to find a metal staircase. Move up the stairs to find Xur on a platform overlooking the mountain range off in the distance.

Class Armor and Exotic Cypher

While Xur's role is essentially the same as it was prior to the Beyond Light expansion, the exotic merchant also has weekly quests that players can acquire to unlock an exotic cypher. Not only are these required to purchase a second fated engram, but they're necessary to acquire legacy exotic gear from the Tower kiosk. Players can earn a new cypher by completing strikes and winning crucible or gambit matches. Gain bonus points for playing with clanmates or finishing more challenging activities.

With Season 15, Xur seems to have acquired more items to sell. In addition to his normal exotic gear, Xur now has Legendary Weapons and Armor for sale in exchange for Legendary Shards and Glimmer. Better yet, the stat rolls are pretty solid on the Black Armor gear for this week.

Exotic Armor

Promethium Spur – Warlock boots

A recent Destiny 2 addition inside the Season of Dawn, these are boots specifically designed for Daybreak users. These boots come with the Intrinsic perk called Embers of Light. While Daybreak is active, any enemies or Guardians defeated will create a Healing and Empowering Rift at their location. In addition, standing within the rift refills class ability energy. When class ability energy is full, Solar weapon kills consume that energy and spawn a combination healing/empowering Rift at the target's location.

While traditionally these boots have not been a recommended purchase, the Promethium Spur are one of the handful of exotics that recieved a much needed buff in Season 15. As such, they may be worth a look, especially considering that their stat roll comes in at a solid 63 this week.

Arc Enhanced. Stat Values:

  • Mobility +12
  • Resilience +12
  • Recovery +6
  • Discipline +2
  • Intellect +17
  • Strength +14

Knucklehead Radar – Hunter helmet

Hunters gets the Knucklehead Radar helmet this week, back nearly one month after it was originally on sale. The helm really lends itself to PvP modes in the Crucible thanks to the perk Upgraded Sensor Pack which enhances the player’s radar when crouched and keeps it on the screen when aiming down the sights.

Useful is the best term to describe this exotic as it's not the best option out there for Hunters, but it can be valuable in the right situations. Knowing where enemies are coming from even when aiming down the sights can come in handy inside of the Crucible, though there are better options overall. Adding to the problem is the fact that the stat distribution this week isn't great.

Void Enhanced. Stat Values:

  • Mobility +17
  • Resilience +3
  • Recovery +12
  • Discipline +17
  • Intellect +10
  • Strength +2

Doom Fang Pauldron – Titan gauntlets

The Doom Fang Pauldrons are back in stock this week. Its exotic perk, Horns of Doom, grant super energy on void melee kills. Not only that, melee kills recharge Shield Throw when Sentinel Shield is active, also extending the super on basic hits.

Needless to say, this is another must-have item for Sentinel Titans, especially bottom tree users, just for the added recharge effect alone. The melee benefits also apply to players using a void sword as well, not just for using the Titan melee attack. It's also worth noting that the roll on this gear is tied for the highest at 63 in total.

Void Enhanced. Stat Values:

  • Mobility +13
  • Resilience +17
  • Recovery +3
  • Discipline +9
  • Intellect +13
  • Strength +8

Exotic Weapon

At long last, the popular heavy shotgun Tractor Cannon is now on sale with Xur. The unique perk of the Tractor Cannon is called Repulsor Force and as it sounds, it makes the gun emit a powerful blast that not only pushes enemies away, it also suppresses them and makes them vulnerable to incoming damage, especially void damage. Not only that, by damaging an enemy, the weapon gets a temporary increase to speed and handling.

Affectioniately known as the Boop Cannon by the community, players have continued to rave about this weapon, especially within PvP style modes like Gambit and the Crucible. With a larger than normal hitbox, the ability to blast opponents off a stage, and also suppress them, it remains a popular choice and is worth grabbing.

Additional perks:

  • Extended Barrel
  • Particle Repeater
  • Composite Stock
