Blizzard has announced that a Diablo 2: Resurrected update 2.4 will arrive early next year bringing with it some major changes.
The remaster will soon play host to a Ladder Rank mode in which players compete to hit level 99, posting their times for all to see. On top of that, there will be all-new Rune Words up for grabs though these won’t transition into regular playthroughs. There will be four Ladders available including standard and hardcore (one life), contestants choosing whether they want to play just the core campaign or add the Lords of Destruction expansion too. Blizzard has yet to confirm when the first Ladder season kicks off though it will likely stand when Diablo 2: Resurrected update 2.4 drops in early 2022.
Another interesting highlight from the upcoming patch is a series of class balance changes. As noted by Blizzard devs, this is the first time Diablo 2 has tweaked its roster of playable heroes for over a decade. The last time this happened was when Blizzard released patch 1.13c for the classic version of its dungeon crawling masterpiece.
A new blog gives an overview of the class changes being made. The developers stress that they don’t want to reinvent the wheel when improving classes or steer them away from their original gameplay feel. Expect quality of life improvements with class skills being subtly reworked to open a variety of viable playstyles.
In addition, Diablo 2 die-hards will be delighted to hear that new Horadric Cube recipes, Set Item changes, and new Rune Words are coming soon.

Diablo 2: Resurrected is a great remake of a real classic. It looks and feels just how I remember it from playing in the early 2000s, but with cooler lighting and sharper graphics. It has a few control issues with when using a controller, but it’s still a must-play for anyone who used to play it and misses it, and a strong recommendation to anyone else who likes action RPGs, dark and grim atmospheres, or who just wants to experience a treasure from the now distant past.
