Activision Blizzard have told investors during an earnings call that they are planning to release more remakes in 2021.
VGC reports that the news came from a Q4 earnings call on February 4th. Past successes with remakes include the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, Spyro Reignited Trilogy, Crash Team Racing, and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2.
The latter was developed by Vicarious Visions, who we previously reported hwas traded from Activision to Blizzard Entertainment, and became a supporting development team. Bloomberg later reported- citing “people familiar with the plans”- that Vicarious Visions and the Diablo IV team are working on the rumored Diablo II remake.
Bloomberg reported in documents they obtained that Blizzard Entertainment’s “Team 1” were working on the remake until 2020. However, they worked on Warcraft III: Reforged; and thanks to that game’s abysmal reception (currently 59 out of 100 on Metacritic and a user score of 0.6 out of 10), they were pulled after an internal review of the project.
Notable classic titles from both Acitvision and Blizzard Entertainment could include Guitar Hero, The Lost Vikings, ans past titles in the Call of Duty series. Licenced titles would need more permissions granted for a remake, and we cannot rule out Activision Blizzard acquiring the rights to a game, as with Crash Bandicoot and Spyro.
What games would you like to be seen remade with Activision Blizzard at the helm? Sound off in the comments below.
