Following the gameplay reveal for A Plague Tale: Requiem, Focus Entertainment has released a demo for the first game.

After it was announced at E3 with a cinematic trailer, A Plague Tale: Requiem got a new gameplay trailer during The Game Awards 2021. It was less than two minutes long, but we got to see some of the new environments, main character Amicia’s new crossbow weapon, and, of course, a lot of rats.

While fans of the original are no doubt guaranteed to grab the sequel at launch, publisher Focus Home Interactive is looking to attract new players and has done so with a free demo for the first game, the excellent A Plague Tale: Innocence.

The demo is only available on PC but that’s because it’s a cloud demo done in partnership with Gamestream, which provides its cloud streaming technology and servers for companies to use.

It includes the first chapter of the game, but it is on a timer, giving you 50 minutes to clear it. Once your time’s up, that’s it. It’ll also only be available up until January 9. It can be downloaded straight from Focus Home Interactive’s website and you don’t need a Steam or Epic Games Store account to play it.

You can access it through your web browser, be it Google Chrome, Firefox, or Microsoft Edge. Focus Home does recommend you use a wired connection for the best experience since the demo is shifting a lot of data.

Since no download is required that means you won’t necessarily get to start playing straight away. You’ll need to wait for a session to become available, although when we tried it out it only took a few minutes.

A Plague Tale: Innocence released in 2019 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, followed by PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch versions earlier this year.

Set during the 14th century, you take control of Amicia as she flees from the French Inquisition with her sickly little brother Hugo, as well as hordes of rats that are spreading the black plague.

Not much is known about the plot of the sequel outside of Amicia and Hugo both returning, as well as their ally Lucas, but the trailers suggest an even darker tale and even larger rat hordes.

A Plague Tale: Requiem releases for Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC in 2022.
