Abandoned Is Just Another Survival Shooter, Apparently

Abandoned is probably the biggest mystery in gaming right now. Rumors have reached a fever pitch in the last few weeks suspecting it's a reborn Silent Hill or Metal Gear game with the blessings of Hideo Kojima.

It's not. That's coming straight from Blue Box Head Studios head and Abandoned creator Hasan Kahraman, who recently sat down with NME to put some of these rumors to rest.

Abandoned is a shooter/survival game,” Kahraman said. “It has some horror elements in it but it’s not really a horror game. It’s not what people think – that it’s Silent Hill.”

NME got an exclusive look at Abandoned, including its gameplay as well as the general story. They didn't spoil much in their report, but they did confirm that all the rumors are completely false, adding whatever you think Abandoned is, you're "not even close."

Kahraman told the publication that Abandoned started out as an open-world game, but then transitioned to be a linear story that follows a character named Jason Longfield. Jason wakes up in the middle of a spooky forest, and although that certainly gives off horror vibes, NME noted that there's more survival than horror elements in Abandoned at present.

What will set Abandoned apart from other games, according to Kahraman, will be its "new game mechanic." Everything Jason does will affect how the player interacts with the game. Sprint and you'll run out of breath and have trouble aiming. Get scared or take damage and you'll suffer other effects that will change "how you're able to play."

As for the recently released Realtime Experience, Kahraman admits that was "a really big disaster." Due to technical problems, Blue Box needed to "cut some footage from the opening teaser" until it was basically just four seconds of footage, which you can see in the embedded tweet.

On the plus side, Kahraman says we'll see a full cinematic trailer "very soon," with a playable prologue to come shortly thereafter.
