Among Us Devs React To Fortnite’s New Impostors Mode

Among Us devs have reacted to Fortnite's new Impostors mode, one that shares a lot in common with Innersloth's popular indie game.

This week's Fortnite update brought with it a brand new game mode. Impostors, the aim of which is to root out the two who don't belong in a group of ten players. The team of eight has to try and figure out who the impostors are while maintaining an area called The Bridge. Meanwhile, the two impostors are tasked with eliminating the other eight players before being rumbled.

As you have probably pieced together by now, Impostors shares a lot in common with Among Us. So much, in fact, that many might have believed it's a crossover with the hit indie game. Especially after Among Us-related words and phrases were found in Fortnite's code not too long ago. That is not the case, as was confirmed by Among Us community director, Victoria Tran.

“It would've been really, really cool to collab… like game mechanics fine, those shouldn't be gatekept, but at the very least even different themes or terminology makes things more interesting,” Tran tweeted. “It feels like a powerless 'lol what's the point anymore' of making our own stories/content.” Not only is the term Impostors lifted right out of Among Us, but also the option to vote out other players, as well as the ability to sabotage the work being done by the team of eight.

Innersloth's Adriel Wallick has also reacted to the new mode. Wallick posted a short comic strip of one person showing another something they made, only for the second person to immediately exclaim they made it. “This was just another fun reminder of how tiny we all really are,” Wallick tweeted.

Although Epic has been taken to court by multiple parties over accusations that it used their creations in Fortnite without permission, this particular example feels very odd. Fortnite has crossed over with countless other games and TV shows and doing so with Innersloth and Among Us for Impostors seems like a homerun. Clearly, the team behind Among Us would have been very much up for working together on the new mode, but that hasn't happened.
