Apex Legends Next-Gen Update Is "In The Works"

Respawn has confirmed that the studio is currently working on the next-gen update for Apex Legends, and that things are looking good. The studio had earlier mentioned that the update should be out sometime this year, but no specific date was promised. A Reddit AMA held recently revealed more information about the game’s ongoing developmental processes and the latest update.

As spotted by PCGamesN, when asked about the status of the next-gen update for Apex Legends, director of communications, rkrigney replied, “Oh man, I WISH I had an update to share but we can't say anything definitive at the moment—so can't spoil anything here. Trust us tho, it's in the works and we're excited about it too”.

It seems Respawn may have some big plans for the next-gen update launch, considering that the studio doesn’t want to “spoil” anything just yet. With the Emergence update now live, perhaps the studio could allocate more resources to the job.

Another question asked in the AMA was with regard to cross-progression and when we could expect it. rkrigney explained that the studio is currently working on it, but it’s not as easy as it sounds. Besides how complicated the development process is, there are also tons of legal hurdles that must be overcome.

“Next year,” said rkrigney, “Cross progression is gnarly as hell in terms of being a problem to solve. It's not only that you have to solve the technical challenge of merging existing accounts, but there are also legal and contractual issues to navigate with purchasing on other platforms. Different regions have different laws. It's a mess. But we're working on it, and we're committed to delivering it.”

Also discussed in the AMA was new Legend, Seer. Respawn mentioned that Seer has had a strong launch and has also introduced new gameplay elements to the game. However, the devs do feel that the Legend is a bit overpowered as of now, and will be nerfed in an upcoming patch to keep things balanced.

It seems that the same hackers were behind the attacks on Apex Legends and Titanfall. A member of the Titanfall community who goes by the username p0358 was working with other members of the Discord group named Remnant Fleet to keep the Titanfall games dead. Their goal was to get Respawn to hire them or give control of the servers to them so that they could revive a canceled Titanfall Online project.
