Army Of The Dead 2 Coming As Netflix Signs Deal With Zack Snyder

Army of the Dead was fine. I liked it, although the critical consensus around The Gamer has been less charitable. And then there's Hideo Kojima's opinion, which includes the word "snydering," which is amazing. Here's the whole thing:

“It was a painful, entertaining, snydering, zombie movie that entertained me by turning my head into a zombie, not to scare me, not to make me laugh, not to make a metaphor for society."

What does that even mean? Perhaps we'll never know. But whatever it means, Kojima will get the opportunity to offer at least two more incomprehensible opinions about Snyder's "Army-verse" thanks to his new deal with Netflix.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Stone Quarry Productions–the production company co-founded by Zack Snyder, his wife Deborah Snyder, and Wesley Coller–have signed an exclusive first-look agreement with Netflix. This basically means that anything Zack Snyder makes goes first to Netflix to either say "yay" or "nay" before it can go to any other film distributor.

“My goal and hope are to bring as much quality content as I can and do it on a giant scale," Zack told The Hollywood Reporter. "Big projects and big movies."

Those big projects apparently involve a lot of what Snyder is calling the Army-verse. Even before Army of the Dead dropped in May, Snyder was already working on a prequel titled "Army of Thieves" along with an anime spinoff. The prequel should be coming this fall to Netflix and the anime spinoff should arrive in the spring of 2022.

The first-look deal, however, has led Netflix to greenlight an Army of the Dead sequel to be co-developed with the first movie's co-writer, Shat Hitten. There's no timeframe on when that sequel will be coming out, but it'll be after Snyder's next big production, titled "Rebel Moon," which starts filming in early 2022.
