Battlefield 2042 Cross-Play and Cross-Progression Confirmed

Battlefield 2042

In a new Battlefield Briefing, senior design director Daniel Berlin provided a lot of new details on Battlefield 2042. Berlin confirmed that cross-platform play would be in the game along with cross-progression. PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC players can all play together and progression (along with any purchases) made can be carried over between PlayStation, PC and Xbox.

Those invited to the upcoming technical playtest this Summer will have a chance to try out cross-platform play between Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC players, and Xbox One and PS4 players. Both PC and console players can opt out of playing with each other and it seems that players on previous gen platforms can’t group up with current-gen players. Which makes sense given the difference in map sizes and player counts.

Battlefield 2042 is slated to release on October 22nd. It will release without a campaign and focus entirely on multiplayer with seven maps available at launch and more being added over subsequent seasons. Ripple Effect Studios (formerly DICE LA) are working on an unannounced mode which will reportedly bring back classic maps and vehicles so that could help bolster the map count. The new mode should be revealed at EA Play Live on July 22nd so stay tuned.
