Bethesda Might Be Creating A New Studio Dedicated To Remakes

Remakes and remasters are a big deal these days. Since the generation that grew up on consoles has some money to spend, a lot of them are choosing to relive their childhoods on games like Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, and Final Fantasy. The best remakes go beyond the original source, like Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and it’s also possible to get a remake wrong like Warcraft 3: Reforged. But by and large, it’s a pretty safe bet for a company to look at its back catalog and pick some classic games to tap into that nostalgia and have a chance to grab an entirely new generation of fans.

So it's hardly unsurprising to find out that Bethesda might be creating a new studio to remake some of its older games. This new rumor comes by way of Skullzi, a YouTuber with a history of breaking Bethesda news.

"Heard a rumor about Bethesda opening a new studio that focuses on remasters or remakes? Might be called Artifact Studios,” wrote Skullzi. “Not sure if this is legit or not but heard it a couple times now so makes me wonder…"

Skullzi didn't give his sources, but did say he'd heard this rumor "from a couple of random but unrelated places." He found out later that Artifact is the name of a production company doing a documentary for Skyrim's 10th anniversary, and offered no evidence to support his previous claim.

But judging by the responses to his tweets, there's definitely some interest in remade Bethesda games. In fact, some Oblivion fans are already remaking the game in Skyrim. The team of modders working on Skyblivion recently revealed a development video showcasing the swampy city of Leyawiin completely rebuilt from the ground up using original Oblivion concept art.

There's still no release date for the mod, but if this Bethesda rumor turns out to be true, we might get an official Oblivion remake before we get the Skyrim-modded remake.
