In this guide, we are going to go over everything you need to know about residential housing. This will include purchasing your house, as well as obtaining and placing furniture. First, let's take a look at how to get your very first residence.

Purchasing Your First Residence

To purchase your first residence, all you need to do is go to your map. Choose a city that you want to reside in. When you click on a city icon, the screen will zoom in and you will see a variety of housing icons. The icons will be either blue, grey, or white. Let's take a look at what each one means.

  • Blue: houses available for purchase
  • Grey: houses that you have not unlocked yet
  • White: houses that you currently own

You can click on any of the blue house icons around the map to see what type of housing it will be. A majority of houses will allow you to pick how it will function. For example, the 2-1 house in Velia shown above has four different options for usage. If you wanted this location, you could pick between storage, refinery, wood workbench, and residence. You will be able to see the floorplan of the room beforehand as well, to help you make your decision.

Choose the residence option on the house you want, and then purchase it! This will cost contribution points but once you buy it, you can head straight to your new home.

You will only be able to have five residences at a time. There is no limit to the number of properties you can have, but try to choose wisely when picking a residence. A good starting city for a residence is Calpheon. Calpheon has vendors for pretty much anything you can think of. If you want a central location, you can also purchase a residence in Heidel.

How To Get Furniture

Now that you have your house, it's time to get some furniture! Above, you can see a simply decorated residence. This furniture was acquired in a few different ways, so let's go over them.

Like other items in Black Desert Online, you can purchase furniture from the Pearl shop. This isn't the most practical option if you don't want to spend money. We are going to focus on furniture pieces that do not have to be purchased with Pearls.

Central Market Furniture

bdo-central-market-furniture-page-7019875

The easiest way to get furniture is from the Central Market. This is a space for players to sell items to each other, ranging from gear to Pearl items.

To access this menu, press ESC. You will see the icon for the market at the top of the menu. Once you open the Central Market, you will see different categories on the left-hand side. The furniture category will be near the bottom.

Here, you can click around to different furniture types. Some items may be in stock, so you can purchase them immediately and they will be sent to your warehouse. Other items will not be in stock. If this is the case, you will be able to 'order' the item. This means that, once a player sells the item, you will have a chance to purchase it. This is automatic, so you will not have to do anything to confirm the purchase. If many people are waiting for an item, it may take a little longer.

Since other players list items on the Central Market, a lot of this furniture may be expensive. If you have the silver, feel free to buy anything. If you are short on silver though, take a look at the other options for getting furniture.

Purchasing From Vendor

Furniture will also be available from vendors around the city. Above, you can see Lylina, a furniture vendor in Calpheon. Lylina also happens to be standing next to an art dealer in Calpheon. The art dealer will sell a variety of paintings that you can decorate your house with.

Below, you can find a list of unique furniture vendors, as well as the items that they sell. Unique vendors are the only NPCs to sell the items. You will come across other furniture vendors, but they will all sell the basic furniture set. Overall, you can see that Calpheon is a great place to find furniture.

Vendor Name Furniture Type Location
Sealus Velian-themed Velia

Annabella Belucci Candles and Chandeliers Calpheon

Once you have furniture, it's time to start decorating! Enter your house and select 'Place Mode' at the top of your screen.

This will open a screen with all the furniture you own. Additionally, you will see furniture available for purchase with Pearls. To decorate, just select an item you want to place. You will be able to rotate the furniture and place it anywhere you want.

You can find all furniture types that you can place in your house listed below.

  • Beds
  • Books
  • Curtains
  • Small Decorations
  • Flooring/Carpets
  • Food Objects
  • Lighting
  • Plants
  • Seating
  • Shelves
  • Tables
  • Wallpaper

If you want to buy furniture with Pearls, you will see it in your house before actually buying it. You will be prompted to buy the object when you confirm placement. This allows you to test the object without spending anything.

Visiting Other Players

bdo-viewing-other-houses-7324164

You can visit other players in Black Desert Online. To do this, you will need to visit the location of the residence. You can set a path to another residence by right-clicking on a house from your map. This will set a path that you can auto-run on.

When you come across a door to another house, press R. This will pull up a menu with all houses. You can filter by friends, party members, or guildmates. After finding a house you want to enter, just click 'Enter".

It's best to proceed slowly into a house, especially if it belongs to a random player. Some players completely fill their houses with furniture, making it difficult to navigate. It's definitely possible to accidentally trap yourself in someone else's house. To avoid this, wait for all of their furniture to load before entering.

Once your house has been decorated, you can visit new cities and purchase another residence! There is a ton of different furniture in the game, so be sure to explore and check out other furniture styles from different cities across the map.
