An Already Bad Situation Somehow Manages to get Even Worse for Blizzard
Clair Hart was, for over three years, a valuable part of Blizzard’s legal team. Keyword: “was”. With the company facing the toughest legal battle it’s ever seen, she decided it was best to take her career in a different path. A recent post on Hart’s Linkedin profile revealed that she’d be parting ways with the company – the statement didn’t specify a reason, but with ongoing government investigations currently besieging Activision-Blizzard, it’s not too hard to guess why.
“After more than three years at Blizzard Entertainment, I have decided to move on to my next adventure. Friday was my last day.” She wrote. “The past three years have been full of unexpected twists and turns, but I feel honored to have worked with and met so many great people at Blizzard and across the Activision Blizzard businesses.”
When news this reached the general public, many gamers took the chance to weigh in – all came to the same conclusion about why she left. One user wrote: “Can’t imagine anyone wanting to take on this case right now from blizz/acti. Loving seeing them hurt and hope somehow other companies take notice and stop abusing their employees. I can dream at least.”
As you may expect, comments on the Linkedin post itself were a bit more positive. Praise for Hart’s work is omnipresent, with many of her contemporaries wishing her the best of luck. One comment is characteristic of the whole sentiment: “Claire, I enjoyed your leadership during COVID and I personally learned a lot from your style, grace, and poise through that experience. It was a pleasure to learn from you and wish you all the best in your next adventures! I hope our paths cross again.”
Assuming Hart’s work was half as impactful as these comment imply, Blizzard’s certainly feeling the sting of this loss. The loss of a single employee won’t sink the company’s efforts to come out with some dignity intact, but it’ll definitely make things a lot harder for them – and considering the content of these lawsuits, it was already an uphill battle. Other major employees have already left, and Hart likely won’t be the last.
