The Borderlands 3 development team has been gearing up for its Krieg-focused final expansion for some time now, with Psycho Krieg and the Fantastic Fustercluck set to drop on September 10th. The fourth Borderlands 3 expansion received an exciting new trailer at Gamescom to help build hype for its upcoming release, and it gives players a better idea of what they will be doing inside Krieg’s mind. Warning: Spoilers ahead for the main story of Borderlands 3.
One of the many great Gamescom reveals, the DLC 4 gameplay trailer gives players a good bit of information on the upcoming DLC. The main goal is reiterated, with players working their way toward what is no doubt a loot-filled location called Vaulthalla. According to Tannis, finding it could help with Krieg’s fractured mental state on top of providing players with dozens of new weapons.

The trailer also explains some of the locations and what they mean to Krieg. One area focuses on the memory of Krieg assaulting a COV base, which confirms why Lilith can be seen in the reveal trailer for a short moment. The mission could ultimately result in a further explanation of Krieg’s lack of a role in Borderlands 3’s story, too.
Next up, the trailer focused on an area with a murderous train, showing that Gearbox is taking advantage of the freedom to do virtually anything within Krieg’s warped mind. The train is supposedly holding the memories of “someone close to Krieg,” which is likely to mean that these are Maya’s memories. Maya’s death at the hands of the Calypsos in Borderlands 3’s main story will no doubt have an impact on Krieg, and those memories should lead to plenty of emotional moments between the two vault hunters.
The final location discussed within the trailer will take place in an area overrun by Hyperion loaders and show Krieg’s tragic origin story. While Borderlands 2 fans have likely heard it before, seeing it could make it even sadder. The trailer also shows that sane Krieg and psycho Krieg will both be talking to the players and guiding them through the DLC, a brilliant idea that will surely lead to lots of memorable moments. Interestingly, few new guns were shown in the trailer despite additional weapons being a highlight of Borderlands 3’s expansions.
Gearbox seems unwilling to release DLC characters despite many fan requests, but they were certainly listening when fans demanded to see more Krieg. Psycho Krieg and the Fantastic Fustercluck is shaping up to be just as memorable as the fourth expansions of the previous two Borderlands games, and thankfully, it is only a few weeks away now.
Borderlands 3 is now available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
