Brendan Fraser Busy Playing Nintendo Switch at Start of Meet and Greet

Most players know the feeling of being so engrossed in a game that the rest of the world just melts away. Further yet, many have felt the pain of another person nagging them to stop playing and snap back to reality while they try to squeeze in just one more minute of playtime.

With the success of portable systems like the Nintendo Switch and incoming Steam Deck, the problem has been further amplified. It is even harder for players to pull themselves away from a game console when it is so easy to take the gaming device with them. Man or woman, young or old, it seems even fan-favorite celebrities like Brendan Fraser of The Mummy fame may occasionally find themselves so into a game that they miss that other person trying to pull their attention away.

In a video on YouTube uploaded by user Scott Lawrence, fans can watch as Scott politely tries to grab Frasers' attention to start a video chat while Fraser merrily taps away on his Nintendo Switch, unbeknownst that the interview has started. Soon after, Fraser does finally notice that they are in fact live and quickly whips the Switch out of view to act as the event never happened, further adding to the hilarity.

The interview was arranged through GalaxyCon, a comic book conference in the United States where fans can pay money for one on one chats with their favorite stars. It may seem like Fraser being late for a paid-for interview is a little unprofessional, but it’s entirely possible that he staged the introduction for comedy purposes. It is also unknown what title Fraser is playing on his Switch at the start of the video, but YouTube comments have jokingly suggested that he quickly needed to defeat Ganon from Breath of the Wild before starting the interview.

While Fraser hasn’t been super active in the film industry as of late, he was exceedingly popular through the late 90s and early 2000s. Starring in a variety of movies like the aforementioned The Mummy blockbusters and comedies like Bedazzled, Fraser won many fans with his inherent warmth and charisma on and off-screen. Brendan Fraser looks poised to make a Hollywood comeback soon too, being cast in famed director Martin Scorsese’s upcoming western crime drama Killers of the Flower Moon.

It is kind of charming to see a prolific Hollywood star so nose deep in his Nintendo Switch that he misses the start of a meet and greet. With Nintendo’s updated OLED Switch model and the Steam Deck on the way, perhaps fans will see more celebrities playing video games in the public eye.

The Nintendo Switch OLED model will launch on October 8th, 2021.
