Call of Duty has become an extremely competitive game, as it has a strong esports player base. Each year players complete in tournaments, and the Call of Duty League Championship (CDL) has players competing soon, with viewers coming in droves online. This year is a bit different, thanks to COVID-19, but the stakes are high and the rewards are spectacular, with this year’s prize being rather gaudy but impressive.
The entirely online CDL will reward the winners of the championship with something that is sure to impress. The final two days of the postseason will take place on August 29 and 30. On the line is $1.5 million, a championship ring, and a gigantic trophy. But on top of that, the winners will also walk away with thrones.

Players online have been bragging about being the king or queen of Call of Duty for a decade and a half, and now a select few will have evidence of that claim. The money would seem to be more than enough to excite those who are competing, but being able to have a ring, trophy, and now a huge gaming throne, is pretty unreal.
The DOTA 2 international 2020 broke esports prize pool records reaching over $34.4 million. But outside of cash prizes, this CDL throne may be the most spectacular prize esports has yet had to offer. The full-sized thrown is black and polygonal in design. If it’s comfy, it’s sure to be an additional boost to their gaming look for Call of Duty professionals, who also like to stream and show off their setup to fans. Even if it’s not the most comfortable chair in the world, however, the winners will probably never want to sit in anything else given how unique and special it is.
For the tournament, Activision also put together a huge real-life bunker that looks like the easter-egg bunkers in Verdank in Warzone. The virtual screening room will show the competitors duking it out as if they were there in person. The victors will also virtually celebrate here, as the trophy (and throne) presentation could not be performed in person.
The professional Call of Duty players are already as competitive as it gets. But with this new absurdly awesome award being revealed, the MVPs of the CDL may try even harder to pull off the victory this weekend.
