Capcom Announces Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition Summer Stream With An Hour Of Info On New Updates

Capcom has announced that it will be holding an hour-long stream for Street Fighter 5 next week with information on new updates coming to the game. Titled the "Summer Update 2021" stream, it will run on Capcom's Twitch channel on August 3, 2021, at 3:00 pm PDT. The most obvious bit of info we'll get is a release date for DLC character Oro. Announced four months ago, Oro has to be nearing completion at this point.

Alongside Oro will be updates on what is happening with crossover character Akira and likely balance updates for the game. We could also see a possible hint at who the final character will be. I've been hoping to see Morrigan from Darkstalkers make an appearance, but I wouldn't hold my breath on that. Considering the stream is an hour long, there is bound to be something more concrete than just "fifth character."

At this point in time, Capcom has managed to turn Street Fighter 5 into a game worth playing. It may have taken four years to get to that point, but the disastrous launch of the fighter back in 2016 has resulted in a game that now feels mostly complete. The introduction of different mechanics and the wildly unique cast has turned this into a game you don't need to be ashamed of owning.

Hopefully, there are no more delays in store for this season. It was inevitable after the COVID-19 pandemic spread last year, but I would like to see Capcom complete Street Fighter 5 so it can work on a potential follow-up.
