Remedy To Expand Game Universe With Two New Games
Remedy’s CEO Tero Virtala announced two spinoffs for the critically acclaimed game Control in a recent statement to investors. Interestingly, one of the games will be a multiplayer PvE game set in the Control universe.
The PvE project is called “Condor” and is part of a collaborative effort with 505 Games. 505 Games is the publisher of the original game Control. According to an earlier press release, Condor will be made on Remedy’s proprietary engine Northlight and be released on PC, PS5, the Xbox Series X|S. Although the details are sparse, it looks like the game will be a 4 player PvE game set in the world of Control.
Condor will mark a new era for the Remedy studio, which has solely focused on single-player games for over 25 years – from Max Payne to Alan Wake. Although acknowledging that there may be skeptics of Remedy’s ability to make a multiplayer game, Mikael Kasurinen, the game director of the Control franchise, expresses his excitement for creating a multiplayer experience in another press release: “We get that there is going to be skepticism about multiplayer. But I believe we can create shared experiences without compromising the unique DNA of who we are, or the stories we want to tell.”
For those not sold on the multiplayer project’s ability to advance the franchise, Remedy is in the early stages of planning for a bigger budget expansion to the Control franchise. Unlike Condor, this new project will most likely be a single-player game. Control was near universally acclaimed due to its visuals, physics, and combat in 2019 – so a bigger budget version of Control presents an exciting future for the franchise.
