Crowfall – the MMORPG/RTS hybrid from ArtCraft Entertainment – today released its first post-launch content. Dubbed, "The Shadow," the update introduces new three-faction PvP that allows you to take part in competitive combat without the need to join a Guild.
You'll find the same sort of competitive nature you find in The Dregs in The Shadow, and you'll still need to be building impenetrable Strongholds, controlling territory, and working with your team – but you won't need to deal with the "complexity or demands of a guild."

"The Shadow is one of the most exciting features in Crowfall because it empowers those players who are not in a guild to drive the moment-to-moment action of the fight based on their choices,” J. Todd Coleman, ArtCraft co-founder and creative director, said. “They set their own path and choose their own strategy without the complexity or demands of a guild. For that reason, battles in The Shadow feel more exciting at an individual player level. You are living out your story and the outcome is squarely on your shoulders."
Here's a quick look at everything you can expect to find in The Shadow update:
- Larger Map in The Dregs: The expanded size of the map and larger zone limits open up more possibilities for larger battles and enables teams to take advantage of strategic opportunities for control and leverage.
- Duelist, Assassin, and Ranger Class Refinements: Changes to strengthen the sub-classes or specialization elements of each by bringing more focus and value to what they each do best; giving players a more strategic role in how they can uniquely contribute to their team.
- New Elemental NPC Enemies: Exciting new enemies for players to face; Ice and Lightning Elementals have joined the world's emerging and ever-expanding set of creatures. Crows will have to rise to the challenge to overcome these monsters and earn their valued loot.
- Performance Improvements: This release includes a substantial set of performance improvements that will contribute to an improvement in framerate.
- Major Refinements and Feature Fixes: As part of the update additional tuning, polish and refinements were made to game items, environment pieces, and crafting resources/interface elements along with tuning of several classes, in response to player feedback. Also, hundreds of fixes and updates across all player worlds help deliver a more polished and engaging experience across the Crowfall universe.
Crowfall is available on PC, along with its first post-launch update – The Shadow. If you're interested in checking out the full patch notes, you can find them on the official Crowfall Forums.
