Cyberpunk 2077 Dev Says Team ‘Put A Lot of Effort’ Into Update 1.3

During a recent live stream, Cyberpunk 2077 developers went into some detail about what players can expect from the game's free DLC compared to its larger expansions. They also explained that Cyberpunk 2077's patch 1.3 is primarily about improving the look and feel of the game.

Cyberpunk 2077 developers are likely very cautious regarding tempering expectations, given the game's troubled launch last fall. The issues with the game caused it to eventually be pulled entirely off Sony's digital storefront just a month after release, and Cyberpunk 2077 finally returned to that digital platform in June.

The live stream explaining just what players can expect from the next Cyberpunk 2077 update featured CD Projekt Red senior-level designer Miles Toast, who specifically talked about why the first piece of DLC is smaller than some might have expected. Toast said that the company's focus has been on patch 1.3, and that's also where most of their effort has been directed. On the flip side, the DLCs that CDPR is releasing right now are "sort of cherries on top," Toast said. He also explained that the free DLCs would be a mix of cosmetics and a few side quests and various new items players can acquire.

Toast and senior quest designer Patrick Mills both reiterated that CDPR is taking a similar approach to what players of The Witcher 3 got with those more significant expansions. Like The Witcher 3, there will be pieces of content and cosmetics added now and then, but the big story beats will come with paid expansion packs like Hearts and Stone and Blood and Wine.

When Hearts of Stone especially arrived for The Witcher 3, many felt like it was an entirely new game added onto the existing base. Blood and Wine wasn't quite as large but did add quite a bit more story to the mix and some extra items and other content. The question now is what precisely the Cyberpunk 2077 paid expansions are going to offer.

Not long after the game launched, CDPR assured players that there would be quite a lot of DLC and some paid expansions, though it did not detail exactly when they could be expected during that announcement. Now that patch 1.3 has officially landed, the next few months may see CDPR focused on those expansions for Cyberpunk 2077 while also paying some attention to that smaller DLC Toast mentioned in the live stream.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions currently in development.
