Cyberpunk 2077 Developer/Publisher CD Projekt Reports First Quarter Net Profits Down 64.7%

The bad new surrounding Cyberpunk 2077 and CD Projekt Red just doesn’t stop these days. CD Projekt Red is still trying to get Sony’s approval to return the game to the PlayStation Store, the game’s second director and head of production resigned due to accusations of bullying, and despite several patches, the game is still pretty buggy.

No CD Projekt SA has reported that the company’s first quarter net profits are down more than 50% – 64.7% if we’re being precise – in the first quarter from the previous year, the company reported today. CD Projekt SA did not say how many units Cyberpunk 2077 sold in the first quarter, but did say “that about 60% of first-quarter product sales came from Cyberpunk sales.”

The game’s five-month absence from the PlayStation Store and CD Projekt’s reluctance to report how many units were sold probably means that sales weren’t very good. According to Reuters, who reported the news, “net profit in the first quarter fell 64.7% to 32.5 million zlotys, well below the 80 million zlotys expected by analysts, impacted by depreciation of Cyberpunk 2077 development expenditures and work on fixing the game. Revenue fell 2% to 197.6 million zlotys ($53.94 million). Selling costs rose 79.6% to 62.1 million zlotys in the quarter.”
