Cyberpunk 2077 Further Updates, Free DLC and Next-Gen Upgrade Delayed to 2022

CD Projekt Red have updated their roadmap for Cyberpunk 2077; delaying further updates, free DLC, and next-gen upgrades to 2022.

The roadmap, originally published on January 13th (archived here), aimed to release patches 1.1 and 1.2 in 2021. That year also aimed to release “multiple updates & improvements,” free DLC, and the free next-gen console update. The latest patch was 1.3 and 1.3.1.

As the roadmap currently stands however, “updates, improvements, and free DLC” are now set for 2022, along with the next-gen update. While noticed by fans and multiple outlets, there does not appear to have been an announcement for this change.

The delay can no doubt partly be contributed to COVID-19, and the subsequent lockdown orders forcing many to work remotely.

In spite of all the issues the game had [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13], and the founders of developer CD Projekt Red predicted to have lost $1 billion USD; Cyberpunk 2077 sold 13.7 million units in 2020.

Further, only 1.6% of Cyberpunk 2077 copies were refunded, with current and predicted future refunds only affecting 9% of CD Projekt’s total game revenue in 2020. While CD Projekt saw 65% drop in profits year-over-year, they had a 2% rise in sales in Q1.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available on Windows PC (via Epic Games, GOG, and Steam), PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Google Stadia. The game is also coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2021, and players on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One respectively will be able to upgrade to the next-gen for free.
