Cyberpunk 2077 Has Sold Over 13 Million Copies Even Factoring In Refunds, Per CDPR

Cyberpunk 2077 has dominated the news cycle ever since releasing earlier in the month, though probably not in the way CD Projekt RED had probably hoped and imagined. While early impressions were largely positive, it became clear as time went on that the console version of the game suffered heavily on the technical side, with some going as far as to say the game was simply unplayable on base PS4 and Xbox One. It lead to the game being outright delisted from PSN and a performance warning on the Xbox store and lots of refunds. Still, however, the game still did big numbers.

According to a press release issued by CD Projekt RED, the game still managed to sell-through 13 million copies. Per the release, they say that also factors in refunds at brick and mortar stores as well as digital storefronts. It’s not clarified how much those refunds amounted to, however.

“Based on reports obtained from digital distribution platforms and data collected from physical distributors, it estimates that by 20 December inclusive gamers have purchased over 13 million copies of Cyberpunk 2077. This figure represents the estimated volume of retail sales across all hardware platforms (factoring in returns submitted by retail clients in brick-and-mortar as well as digital storefronts), aka the “sell-through” figure, less all refund requests e-mailed directly to the Company by the publication date of this report in the framework of the “Help Me Refund” campaign.”

The hype for Cyberpunk 2077 was massive, as it’s lingered over this ending console generation for its entire duration, being officially announced back in 2012 and has been marketed to some degree ever since then. CD Projekt RED has also continued updating the game with various patches and hotfixes, too. Time will tell how playable the game will be on those base consoles as time goes on.
