Cyberpunk 2077 on PC Will Corrupt Your Saves if Save Files Exceed 8 MB

cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077’s infamously poor launch will be remembered for years to come, with the game being in especially poor condition on consoles. But while it’s faced the bulk of its issues on Xbox and on PlayStation, that doesn’t mean those playing the game on PC haven’t faced any issues whatsoever.

As recently pointed out in a Reddit thread, if you’re playing on Cyberpunk 2077 on PC, you’re going to want to keep an eye on the file size of your save files, because the larger they get, the bigger problems you’re going to have. If your save file exceeds 6 MB, for instance, your game will begin taking a long time to load. If it exceeds 8 MB, however, the entire file will simply get corrupted, and you’ll lose the entire thing.

This is something that’s confirmed by GoG as well. Players are advised to not keep too many items of crafting components in their inventory, because that’s one of the primary reasons for save files growing larger in size. It’s a rather weird issue (though not completely unheard of in PC games, to be honest), and not one that’s been fixed by the recent hotfix.

Currently, Cyberpunk 2077 is available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Stadia, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions due out some time in 2021.

Recent development have indicated that CD Projekt RED might face a class action lawsuit over “misrepresentation to receive financial benefits”. Read more about that through here.
