Primary weapons include the Stinger and RSF60, sidearms including the 9mm and the Sheriff, and special weapons like the M40 light machine gun and the Talon 7. Deciding which combination of tools to equip while getting lost in the vast forests of Oregon can be difficult. This list will go over the most dangerous weapons in the game.

Updated on August 4th, 2021 by Josh Davison: Despite the fact that any chance of a sequel seems to have been squashed, Days Gone remains a popular and much-loved zombie-killing game. The story of Deacon St. John is a compelling one for many players, and the opportunity to cut one's way through the undead-filled wilderness on a motorcycle is hard to pass up. However, surviving the Freakers that fill the open world of Days Gone isn't easy, so each player has to make sure that they gear up with the best weapons that they can find. There are plenty to choose from, so getting the right loadout can get a little daunting.

15 IDF-PUP Might Be The Best Assault Rifle On Offer

The IDF-Pup is a lethal assault rifle that gives the accuracy, rate of fire, and range that is needed to survive in the zombie-ridden wilds of Oregon. It's a primary weapon that can keep Deacon St. John alive as long as he has the ammo for it. In terms of damage, there are better weapons, but it does enough to get by and makes it easy to score headshots.

This one is obtained by wiping out half of the total Hordes on the map, so it takes a while to unlock this one. However, it's a gun that is totally worth the wait.

14 The PPSH-41 Is A Great Fast-Shooting Choice

The PPSH-41 is another primary weapon, and it has one of the fastest fire rates in the game. Despite that, it is still a very accurate weapon that can be deadly at a long distance. So long as Deacon keeps control of the spray, this gun can pick off several Freakers at a good distance.

This is another weapon that takes a while to get to, as it's only obtainable at the Wizard Island encampment in the Crater Lake region. It's available at Trust Level 1 and costs 2,250 credits.

13 The MG 55 Is Can Grind A Horde To Pieces

The MG 55 is an LMG that can cut down an entire Horde in the right conditions. It has one of the best damage and rate of fire outputs in the game, but it can be easily controlled. Its penetrating power is unparalleled, making it a go-to when cleaning out Hordes.

Ironically, this weapon is unlocked by cleaning out 60% of the Hordes on the map, so it'll take a while to obtain. However, it can carry Deacon through the rest of the Hordes in the game, and it even gets an extended magazine after eliminating 85% of the Hordes.

12 The Auto Shotgun Is A Shotgun That Fires Like A Machine Gun

The Auto Shotgun pretty much speaks for itself with the name. It's a shotgun that can fire automatically. It can spray fire over enemies both living and undead, and it's liable to put down anything it hits after one shot. Like most shotguns, its effectiveness is reduced at a range, but it's still one of the deadliest weapons in the game.

The Auto Shotgun is another Horde Killer reward, but this one is unlocked fairly quickly. The Auto Shotgun becomes available after killing 25% of the Hordes.

11 The Liberator Shotgun Reduces A Zombie To Pieces

The Liberator is easily one of the most powerful shotguns in the game. It isn't automatic like the Auto Shotgun, but it can dole out some impressive damage and has a decent range for a shotgun to match. It can chew through zombies, so each shot will likely hit multiple enemies.

The Liberator can be found at the Lost Lake encampment, and it's available for 3,000 credits after reaching Trust Level 3.

10 Drifter Crossbow Is A Silent Ranged Weapon With Options

The Crossbow isn't too difficult to find in the game and will be automatically awarded through progress in the main storyline. It can be found inside the gun locker at the O'Leary Mountain Safehouse. Unlocking the enhanced crossbow will come after traveling to the southern part of the map and completing a mission at Iron Mike's encampment in Lost Lake.

The Crossbow comes with five bolt variations including Standard bolts, Residue Bolts that cause enemies to turn on each other, Incendiary Bolts that burn anything that it touches, Poison Bolts that poison Deacon's attackers killing them over time, and Explosive bolts that well, explode. The weapon is even more dangerous when paired with the Nocked Up and the Thorne In Your Side skills that give the player a chance to retrieve bolts that have been fired and increase the bolt's damage.

9 .50 BFG Gives The Most Powerful Damage Output In The Game

This sniper rifle found under the Special weapons category is arguably the most powerful weapon within Deacon's arsenal. While it is one of the more expensive weapons costing the bike-riding drifter 3,000 credits, its near-perfect damage, range, accuracy, penetration, and stopping power certainly make it worth the price.

It can be purchased from the merchant at Wizard Island once the player has reached the camp's level 2 trust.

8 The Chicago Chopper Can Chew Through Zombies

With one of the highest fire rates and ammo capacities in a weapon, the Legendary Tommy Gun is one of the top contenders in taking out a hoard of Freakers or anybody else standing in front of the most famous member of the Mongrels Motorcycle Club. The weapon can be picked out at the Wizard Island merchant and costs 3,000 credits once reaching level 2 in camp Trust.

7 SMP9 Is A Fast-Firing And Accurate Sidearm

While most secondary weapons aren't that impressive, this automatic sidearm can be purchased from the Hot Springs merchant for 1,250 credits and is one of the more accurate secondary weapons with a higher fire rare to match.

6 The Crowdbreaker Is A Close-Quarter Devastator

The double-barreled shotgun found at Iron Mike’s camp for 2,500 credits comes packing a massive punch with one of the highest damaging weapons found in Oregon.

Its high damage paired with a decent range for a shotgun, massive stopping power, and a large magazine is what makes the Crowdbreaker one of the top shotguns in Days Gone.

5 The MWS Is A Reliable And Powerful Rifle Option

The MWS Rifle comes with a large magazine, a relatively high stopping power, but is showcased by a high rate of fire and accurate firing. Best utilized at close to mid-range, it can be picked up from the Hot Springs merchant once gaining the second level in the camp's Trust and costs just 2,000 credits.

4 Boozer's Shotgun Can Blow Through Zombies That Get Close

The first primary weapon acquired by Deacon after progressing in the main storyline, Boozer's Shotgun comes with a decent fire rate combined with a respectable amount of damage per shot.

Its stopping power also has the ability to occasionally cause enemies to stumble and is most effective against heavier enemy types or smaller groups of enemies.

3 The PDW Is One Of The Best Pistols On Offer

This pistol can be purchased from the Wizard Island merchant for 1250 credits once reaching level 3 in camp Trust and comes with several higher stats. Incredible accuracy, highest range when it comes to sidearms, quick-firing, but still has some punch.

It is also gifted with low recoil and a large clip which makes the PDW pistol one of the top sidearms to use while drifting through the wooded streets of Oregon or needing to take care of an enemy instead of reloading a primary weapon.

2 MG45 (Special) Can Remove Every Freaker In Sight

This light machine gun is classified as a special weapon and is one of the top choices to use while taking on a hoard of Freakers. Found at Hot Springs for 2,500 credits, the MG45 comes with a high rate of fire and enough ammo to take down any size hoard that may stand in Deacon's way.

1 The Lil' Stubby Is A Portable And Powerful Shotgun

While the PDW pistol is an excellent sidearm, Lil' Stubby may be the top secondary available. One of the best weapons to use while riding the motorcycle and having to take out nearby bikers or Runners (very angry puppies).

The powerful sidearm costs 2,000 credits and can be bought immediately at the merchant from the Wizard Island Camp.
