Yesterday, we found out that Nova Warp wouldn’t disappear in the coming Void 3.0 subclass rework. This news came courtesy of an interview between Destiny 2 game director Joe Blackburn and Polygon, and it continues today with more details about the new weapon crafting system coming in The Witch Queen expansion.
The first thing Blackburn made clear is that Destiny's weapon crafting won't be anything like other MMOs. “We really want it to feel more sacred, more special. And we want [you] to have this sort of long relationship with your weapons," explained Blackburn. "And when you master a weapon, we want you to feel like, ‘Yeah, I've put in some time, I’ve put in some grease. And I feel like an expert with this thing.’"
Unlike other MMOs, where crafting is often a matter of acquiring components to "turn all this grass into a gun," Destiny's crafting will be play-based with that weapon. It also won't use any of the current resources in Destiny 2, so veteran players with tons of Legendary Shards and masterwork materials won't have any advantage over brand new players diving into the crafting system.
Weapon crafting will also be "more in-depth than anything" else in Destiny, and it'll be a "new system [built] from the ground up."

Besides the new weapon crafting, Blackburn also dropped a few hints about the new Glaive weapon coming in Witch Queen. He reiterated stuff from the recent Destiny 2 showcase, such as it being a first-person melee weapon that stabs, blasts, and also deploys shields, but unlike swords, you can still keep stabbing even when your ammo runs out.
Does this mean Destiny's swords will be reworked to not have an ammo requirement? No, but Glaive ammo will only be required for its blaster function.
Blackburn also suggested that one would be able to pick and choose perks to add to the Glaive using the new weapon crafting function, specifically mentioning Swashbuckler as an option.
Weapon crafting and the new Glaive both arrive in The Witch Queen expansion, which lands on February 22, 2022.
