Destiny 2's developers are doing the rounds after their big Witch Queen reveal presentation. Game director Joe Blackburn and general manager Justin Truman first touched base with Polygon to promise that Nova Warp and other beloved Supers won't disappear with the new Light subclass rework, and that weapon crafting will be an entirely unique experience in Destiny 2 that won't feel like other MMOs.
Now, the pair sat down with PC Gamer for a more general conversation about where Destiny 2 has been and where it’s headed. Artifact mods and creating new weapons are definitely worth reading about for fans, but the most exciting dialog came from Bungie’s upcoming 30th-anniversary event.
"We're definitely trying to do something different than a regular season. I think if we were going to follow the typical beats for a season, we would have just released another season,” Truman said. “Instead, what we want is more of a celebration. We want to have a bunch of really exciting reasons to come back into the game, a bunch of really cool free stuff for everybody to play with."

Bungie gave a brief outline of their plans for the 30th-anniversary event, including a new six-player matchmade activity, a new dungeon, and the return of the Exotic Rocket Launcher Gjallarhorn. Whereas in most seasons all that content would be dripped out from week to week, the 30th-anniversary event will be "one big shotgun blast" of content right when it arrives.
It'll also bring a bunch of new Destiny 2 cosmetics based on Bungie's previous games like Oni and Myth. When asked if Halo would also make an appearance, Truman said that "we're already baked with what we're doing" and that the event "is not about celebrating any one specific game."
That said, there will likely be a few nods to Halo in the event, such as the Titan cosmetic armor which features a Halo needler as a pauldron.
