Destruction AllStars Developer Has “Plan for Forthcoming Year” of Support

Lucid Games’ Destruction AllStars is out tomorrow, launching free for PlayStation Plus subscribers. Though it offers the ability to play offline, multiplayer is the main focus. In terms of post-launch support, one can expect seasons, new AllStars, modes and so on. What do the first few months have in store for players though?

Eurogamer posited this question to Sony xDev’s John McLaughlin, who said, “So we’ve got a plan. The first couple of months is basically letting people play the game, get into the game, of course we’re gonna look at the analytics and look at what people are playing. While we’ve got a plan for the forthcoming year, we’ve got loads of cool stuff coming, we do want to engage with that community, we want to listen to what they’re saying. It’s important for life services to be able to pivot, you know, and listen to what people are saying.”

This seems to indicate that despite having a plan for content to release, the development team could shift priorities depending on what fans want. For example, MacLaughlin notes that the game is “quite modular.”

“So when we’ve been playing it in development, it’s kind of like we’ve had ideas within modes, that although we’ve settled on something, those ideas are still there. And we can quickly turn modes into something new.” He added that there would always be something new to come back to, whether it’s new vehicles and characters or new modes and cosmetics. “It’s going to be a tonne of stuff for people to come back and play.”

Destruction AllStars launches exclusively for PS5 tomorrow and will include 16 AllStars to choose from, each with their own unique abilities inside and outside of vehicles. Multiplayer modes at launch include Gridfall, Stockpile, Carnado and Mayhem. Challenge Series will also be available, providing players a series of challenges focused on a single AllStar that culminates in a 1-on-1 battle. These will require premium Destruction Points to unlock, based on the recent State of Play presentation.
