Choosing a gender for your character in an ARPG is nothing unusual these days, and inclusion is a “super important pillar” for all of the games at Blizzard, devs recently said. Therefore, with Diablo 4, the players can expect “the most inclusive experience” the studio has ever made with a Diablo game.
Art director John Mueller talked about this in a recent interview with PCGamesN. From the customization standpoint, the team believes Diablo 4 will offer something for everyone, regardless of however you identify yourself, and Mueller is currently very happy with the variety that the team has achieved through character customization.

According to Mueller, the goal from the beginning was to make “the most inclusive” Diablo game ever. All classes will have lots of appearance options available, with many different body types and plenty of different personas. “There’s something there for you,” Mueller said.
Each class has a unique body type and is really distinct from other classes as far as the body type is concerned. Rogues look very different from druids, which also look very different from barbarians. And not forget the game will feature your own character up close in cinematic story moments, rendered completely in-engine.
The team has already shared a look at several possible Rogue personas, ranging from dark-skinned to blonde to Asiatic. All have different face paint, hair colors, colored clothing, and slight variations to their facial features. The customization continues to jewelry, make-up, tattoos, and many more. The upcoming dungeon crawler will have “more in-depth customization for your characters” than any of its predecessors. These tools will help the players to build a stronger connection to their characters.
The studio’s technical art team put a lot of effort into the balance of the visual style, combining photorealistic rendering with handcrafted models. According to the art director, “Diablo is the apex of dark fantasy in the ARPG genre,” and Diablo 4 will fully embrace this dignity. “It’s amazing what your eye picks up when you’re looking at something that has a very realistic set of visual rules.”
Diablo 4 has no exact release date as of now, yet we can expect the game to arrive sometime in 2022.
