Evil Dead: The Game was originally announced at The Game Awards in late 2020 for a 2021 release date. At the time, the plan was for it to be an exclusively multiplayer affair, where players could fight each other and work cooperatively. Just recently, the developer announced its intentions to delay Evil Dead: The Game so that the team could give it some more polish, and surprisingly, add a single-player mode. Because of the extra functionality being added, the game is now set to launch in February 2022. While the delay might be disappointing for some fans, it could make for a better experience, especially for those who want to play solo.
The new game looks set to be a showcase for characters from all the different eras of the franchise, even if one major character seems to be missing from the 2013 Evil Dead reboot. Despite this, the developer is bringing back Bruce Campbell and other voice actors to create an authentic Evil Dead experience. Fans of the franchise are undoubtedly watching this game closely, and its delay to February 2022 could mean great things for the game and its players – particularly those that enjoy singleplayer gaming.

Even though Evil Dead: The Game was designed with multiplayer in mind, the game is now getting a single-player component. This surprising move could potentially mean a better experience for some players. Rather than having to wait on the availability of other people, gamers will be able to run through hordes of demons, and monsters, on their own. This could make for a more genuine Evil Dead experience, with players being able to engage in an Ash Williams power fantasy and emulate the events of the movies. Just like the film series, players will hopefully be able to single-handedly take on the armies of darkness while visiting iconic locations from the franchise.
The decision to delay Evil Dead: The Game is an unexpected move, but it could benefit the game, developer, and the players. A single-player component could easily broaden the appeal of the prject and further enhance its financial success. The extra polish being applied to the game is also bound to be welcomed by fans. While delays are commonplace in 2021, fans certainly sound like they will reap the benefit of having a more refined game, along with a whole new game mode to experience. Beyond the impact of COVID-19 on the industry, game delays have been viewed in a more positive light since the issues surrounding Cyberpunk 2077's launch.
While players will have to wait a bit longer to play it, a stronger version of the game is arguably better for everyone. A single-player mode was certainly on some fan wish lists for Evil Dead: The Game, and it could be a more engaging experience overall than the multiplayer mode. While the co-op and PvP multiplayer will suit some gamers perfectly, the allure of playing solo as Ash Williams and defeating hordes of demons just like in the movies could end up becoming the main appeal of the title.
Evil Dead: The Game is set for release in February 2022 on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
