Fallout 76 Update 1.55 Hotfix Causes Disconnects And Bugs

Numerous patches and free story updates have salvaged Fallout 76's reputation since its disastrous launch. Despite suffering from almost every problem you could imagine back in 2018, the game has maintained a dedicated player base through Bethesda's ongoing support. However, since rolling out one of these updates earlier this week, players have been experiencing an avalanche of new bugs.

The update 1.55 hotfix went live two days ago, and since then players have been taking to the official subreddit to share problems and bugs they have run into. Seemingly as a result of the update, players are reporting more lag, disconnections, and console crashes. Player characters also appear to be taking far more damage than usual, dying to enemies they could typically defeat.

Over on r/fallout76, user MrWiatch reported that since downloading the latest update, playing Fallout 76 would cause the whole PS5 console to crash, not just the game. Other players are experiecning this issue too, and it appears that it's caused by standing too close to a junkyard fountain, which for whatever reason the new update does not get along with.

On the flip side, PS4 users have a unique set of issues. Users in one thread report experiencing constant server disconnections, and plenty of lag. User simulacra4life even says they had "15 temporary server disconnects in[ …] two minutes." Other stories are similar, saying they can get around 10 minutes of uninterrupted playtime before a crash.

One issue that is affecting everyone regardless of platform, however, is characters taking more damage than usual. User Jeb500 describes the bug as "like the game is forgetting to count armour" when calculating how much damage is taken from an attack. Lady_Montoya agreed, sharing, "Died more times today against robots than I have my entire time playing. My build and armour is the same and I had no issues yesterday but today I am getting my ass kicked…"

Bethesda Support currently has a guide out for anyone experiencing console crashes while playing the game. For any other bugs that have only started appearing since the latest update, it is recommended that you contact the team directly.
