Not all of Final Fantasy 14's story secrets are revealed in those hundreds of hours of questing. Expanding upon its universe prior to Endwalker's launch, Final Fantasy 14 just dropped its next side story, Her Father's Daughter, revealing more tales from Admiral Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn's past.
Tales from the Twilight, the newest series of side stories uploaded to Final Fantasy 14's Lodestone, is a series of five tales following beloved characters you may already know—if you're all caught up with the main scenario, that is. The collection isn't complete just yet, but the last story is set to launch on September 24, and the two already published focus on Yugiri and now, Limsa Lominsa's pirate leader.

Her Father's Daughter is a look into the traumatic life Merlwyb lived before you even met her, going back years prior to version 1.0, even. The story opens with the admiral reflecting on her past, recalling memories of her father, Bloefhis Bloefhisyn, and her first mate and gunner, Lorens. Her father's story was one already revealed, just without as much detail, but Lorens seems unfamiliar.
The story leaves off on a note that may come back to be important for side stories or main quests later on, making for an excellent tidbit to squeeze in before Endwalker. While Final Fantasy 14's story is easy to follow and perfectly fine without supplemental lore material, its team has a history of rewarding those who engage with those extra tales—the Omega raids are a good example of that.
Final Fantasy 14's Endwalker expansion is just a couple of months way, and director and producer Naoki Yoshida will detail more of what's to come in this month's Live Letter. The MMO's popularity has seen a massive surge in 2021, resulting in one data center to close to new players completely, while Japan's data center braces for future expansion traffic with a stress test.
