Flying Pikachu Returns To Pokemon Go With A Special Balloon

It’s been five years since Pokemon Go forever changed the way we play Pokemon. To commemorate the milestone, the Pokemon Go team announced that fans will be able to take part in a special event featuring Flying Pikachu with a five-shaped balloon, Shiny Darumaka, and more.

Since its launch in 2016, Pokemon Go has evolved far beyond the basics of exploring your community and catching Pokemon. From the introduction of Buddy Pokemon and Field and Special Research, to saving the world from Team Go Rocket and participating in the first-ever global Pokemon Go event, the world of the game has become far more complex and exciting as the years have gone by. In particular, themed events have become quite a staple for Pokemon Go. Some of this year’s highlights have been Season of Legends, a three-month-long event spotlighting never-before-seen Legendary Pokemon, and Charge Up, the first event in the game’s history to focus on electric-type Pokemon. And, who can forget the recent Bidoof Breakout event that culminated in July 1 officially being named Bidoof Day?

Pokemon Go’s fifth anniversary event, which will take place from Tuesday, July 6 to Thursday, July 15, promises to be packed full of features that have been added to the game over the years, including Field Research, Special Research, and a Collection Challenge. As for the Pokemon that players can expect to encounter during the event, there will be many chances to catch a glimpse of not only Flying Pikachu and Shiny Darukmaka, but first-partner favorites such as Charmander, Mudkip, and Snivy.

Of course it wouldn’t be an anniversary event without some special celebrations. Players can enjoy in-game fireworks, gift stickers, the newly announced real-time sky mechanic, and this year’s Jump-Start Special research. They may also happen upon a Shiny Meltan when activating the Mystery Box during the event. To top it all off, Item Bags will be expanded to 3,500, which will leave plenty of room for things like Rare Candy, a massive amount of Pokeballs, and whatever items find their way into the Special Box, Ultra Box, and Adventure Box during the event. Oh, and all Lure Modules, including Glacial, Magnetic, Mossy, and Rainy Modules, will last one hour for the duration of the event. Phew. Did we forget anything?

With this fifth-anniversary event bringing together both new and old, it will surely be a great opportunity to reminisce about all of your best Pokemon Go memories. After all, who can forget the summer of 2016, when city centers and parks were overflowing with life and everything seemed just a bit more simple? If you want to spread some of that nostalgia around, you can share all of the best moments of the last five years on social media with the hashtag #PokemonGO5YearAnniversary.
