Fortnite Releases Definitely Not Among Us Mode, Impostors

Fortnite's new LTM Impostors tasks players with finding out who doesn't belong in a group of players before they can eliminate everyone. Sounds familiar.

Fortnite has amped up its collaboration machine again as season seven rolls on. Ariana Grande, Superman, and Wonder Woman have all been added to the Fortnite roster in recent weeks. There was also reason to believe an Among Us crossover was incoming. However, the creators of the hit indie game stepped in and squashed those rumors.

Turns out Fortnite is borrowing from Among Us, but not in an official capacity. Epic Games added an all-new LTM this week called Impostors. Yes, as the name suggests, the new game mode is very similar to Among Us. Impostors splits ten players into two teams. A team of eight is tasked with maintaining the Imagined Order's HQ while also trying to figure out who the two impostors are.

The chosen impostors will make up the opposing team. It is their duty to eliminate the other eight players. Not by brutally murdering them as is the case in Among Us, but by pushing them into a rift. That's one difference between the new game mode and Among Us, at least. If players become suspicious after discovering an elimination has occurred, they can call a meeting and vote to boot someone from the round. That's right, just like Among Us.

The differences are minimal, but they are there. The way you eliminate players, as mentioned above, as well as the setting. The tasks you need to perform are also very different. Fixing the battle bus, preparing supply drops, that sort of thing. The new game mode also ties into Fortnite's ongoing story. The impostors work for Agent Jones who turned on the Imagined Order a while ago.

Impostors is a lot of fun and it's unclear at this point in time how long it will stick around. Impostors is described as a new game mode rather than an LTM which could mean it sticks around for a little longer than usual. As for where this is leading, Impostors seems far too similar to Among Us for the pair not to have a crossover in the very near future. InnerSloth is adamant that's not the case, though.
