Even back when God of War: Ragnarok (which isn’t officially called that, at least right now) was first unveiled last year with a 2021 launch window, it was abundantly clear to most people that the game was never actually going to launch within that timeframe- so when, earlier this year, Sony confirmed that the game had been pushed back to a new 2022 launch window, almost no one was surprised.
That said, the question still remains- exactly when in 2022? That’s still a pretty wide window. Should we expect a game in the earlier months, like the previous God of War, or will it be Sony’s tentpole Holiday release? Well, it seems like it might fall in the middle.
Speaking in an interview with TMT Post, PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan said that the next year or so is going to see the release of both Horizon Forbidden West and God of War: Ragnarok, which might seem to suggest that currently, the plan is to release the latter some time in Summer of 2022. Of course, plans can always change, and “the next year or so” is a pretty vague term in and of itself, but it’s still good to have at least a rough timeframe.
Horizon Forbidden West currently has a Holiday 2021 launch window and is in the final stages of development, but Sony is unwilling to commit to a concrete release date just yet. Both Horizon and God of War are going to launch for PS5 and PS4.
