HAL Laboratory Teases That More Kirby Is in Our Future

Kirby Sings Artwork

Last year, in an interview with 4Gamer, Kirby Star Allies director Shinyu Kumazaki teased new Kirby games, merchandise, and more that were coming down the pipeline in the distant future. Kirby Fighters 2 was released on Switch last year as well, but since then the pink puffball hasn’t made another appearance.

Fret not, because Kumazaki is back with another update on the state of the Kirby franchise. In a recent interview with Nintendo Everything, Kumazaki announced that now that support for Kirby Star Allies is complete, HAL can move on to “the next phase” of their plans for the hero from Planet Popstar:

“And now, finally, we can move on to the next phase! I still try new things at work every day, talking with my colleagues about where to take the [Kirby] series next. Together with them, even if only to please a single fan, we’re planning for the next stage of our future. The team is a culmination of the best aspects of the Kirby franchise, and we hope you’ll look forward to what we have coming next.”

Previously, the Kirby development team said that it wants the next Kirby title to be “the pinnacle of Kirby games” and to top all of the games that have come before it. An ambitious plan, to be sure, but one that likely fills Kirby fans with excitement at the possibilities of what could be next for the franchise.
