When Is a Battle Royale Not a Battle Royale?
Are we still in the age of everything needing a battle royale mode? Some franchises, like Call of Duty have benefitted from expanding their traditional gameplay into the BR realm and other games that focus on a BR element have sprung up as popular titles.
With Halo Infinite projected for a late 2021 release, it would be totally acceptable to have a battle royale gametype in addition to the other classics and staples of the series, like CTF, Team Slayer, and King of the Hill.
Though, on multiple occasions over the years, 343 Industries has shrugged off rumors of a battle royale mode in Halo Infinite. However, since the technical preview launched this weekend, we have heard audio clips of our favorite Halo announcer literally announcing “Battle Royale”, just as he does with Slayer, Firefight, and all the other game types.
Is 343 Industries still going to deny this prospect? It’s okay to change your mind. A lot can happen over the course of a game’s development. Again, it’s totally acceptable to have a battle royale mode in your game. Just come out and say it. Hell, make a big deal out of it and get people hyped about it.
Remember when Halo 3: ODST launched and had Firefight and not-Horde Mode like Gears 2? Maybe Halo Infinite will have something like Spartan Royale or Last Spartan Standing and call it anything other than a battle royale. Or maybe 343 is sitting on a reveal until they are ready to show it off in detail.
Whatever the case; unrevealed game mode, scrapped idea, or future add-on, there could certainly be a place for a battle royale mode in Halo Infinite. Halo Infinite is expected to come out sometime in 2021 for PC and Xbox Series X|S.
