IO Interactive has announced new content coming to Hitman 3 in 2022, which will include new maps, a new storyline, new modes of play, and enhancements for the PC version of the game that will bring the PSVR exclusive VR mode to computer.
Hitman 3 – Year 2 will start on 20th January 2022 with support for another 12 months. details are thin on the ground for now, but IOI has decided to back the game with more content as the whole World of Assassination trilogy has reached 50 million players. At the time of the game’s release IO stated that this was the end of this particular road for the bald assassin, but plans have clearly changed, much to the delight, I’m sure, of series fans.
The one new mode that’s been confirmed is Elusive Target Aracde. This is a permanent addition to the game that will provide the “ultimate Elusive Target challenge in a change to the established formula”. Beyond that, whatever the new maps and storylines will entail is obviously still being kept under wraps with just a handful of briefly shown teaser images:
Coming in Spring 2022, it seems like we’re going to get a fancy looking new map.
PC players will reap some of the biggest benefits here with technical updates. The game having already been updated since release with support for high CPU counts and Variable Rate Shading, 2022 will see the added support of ray tracing on PC. Additionally, while Hitman 3 launched with exclusive VR support for PlayStation VR, that mode of play will arrive on PC in January 2022 – it was seemingly a 12 month exclusive for Sony. Technical details will be shared in due course, such as which particular PC VR headsets will be supported.
Hitman 3 was one of the first major game releases of 2021. It wraps the stylish and inventive trilogy perfectly, having scored an 8 out of 10 in our review:
Charting the series’ progress since that 2016 Paris debut has been a fascinating journey. IO have learned a lot over the past five years and that really shows in Hitman 3. It’s a flashier, more fluid evolution of IO’s original template – a rewarding conclusion to one of the most unique video game franchises around, and one we’ll continue playing for many weeks and months to come.
Hitman 3 is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, as well as Google Stadia and Nintendo Switch.
