Hopeful Redfall Fans Shouldn’t Expect to Hear News Anytime Soon

Many who watched E3 2021 agreed that Microsoft had a strong showing. It presented all kinds of updates and reveals about upcoming Xbox titles, andRedfall stands tall among the games that Xbox Games Studios revealed as Arkane's next big project after Deathloop. Redfall definitely has the benefit of a unique premise; although it's structured around familiar Left 4 Dead-esque gameplay, it blends sci-fi and fantasy in a new story full of vampire-hunting action. Considering pop culture has largely left vampires behind, Redfall may be a breath of fresh air.

It's no surprise that Redfall already has its fans, even though there's a lot that Arkane Studios hasn't revealed. Fans are undoubtedly eager to hear more about Redfall, whether it's through a gameplay reveal or a story trailer. Unfortunately, it wouldn't be surprising if many months pass before Arkane says anything new about Redfall. For one thing, Deathloop is about to release, which means Arkane will probably be focused on supporting that rather than advertising Redfall. For another, Redfall itself is such a recent announcement that it probably still has a lot of development work left.

Redfall Has Obstacles Ahead of It

Deathloop is arguably the biggest thing standing in the way of Redfall news. Arkane's time-bending FPS has been the sole star of its publicity for some time now, showing off everything from its 1960s aesthetic to its varied combat system in as many Sony conferences as possible. Odds are that Arkane fans won't stop hearing about Deathloop for a while after it releases. If Arkane's aggressive advertising of the game sets a precedent, the studio will likely spend several months focused on further Deathloop publicity in order to drum up sales. That means there may not be time to spare for new information about Redfall.

It should also be noted that Redfall probably still has a decent amount of development left too. Redfall's reveal trailer claimed it would release in summer 2022, meaning at the time of announcement it had at least a full year to go. It's always possible that Arkane is aiming for the end of that summer, meaning Redfall is even farther away. In an industry where delays are increasingly common, Redfall fans should be prepared for the possibility that Arkane will need more time to perfect the game. All of that means it might not release any concrete Redfall updates in 2021.

Redfall Will Come Around Eventually

Rather than expecting news in the next couple months, Redfall fans should mark winter or spring 2022 on their calendars as the best times to anticipate news. By then, Deathloop will have had plenty of time in Arkane's spotlight, meaning the studio can turn its attention to Redfall. Additionally, that window is far enough away from Redfall's E3 announcement that Arkane might have some made some significant progress it can show fans.

Some prompt Redfall announcements in 2022 wouldn't be surprising, even if they're minor. As a studio connected to ZeniMax Media, Arkane joined the Xbox Game Studios family when Microsoft acquired ZeniMax. Deathloop is exclusive to PC and PS5 until the Xbox Series X version comes around, but Xbox likely wants to rebrand Arkane as one of its primary studios by focusing on the games it's bringing to Xbox. Redfall offers a perfect avenue to celebrate Arkane's status as a Microsoft studio. Arkane has done really well in keeping Redfall under wraps so far, suggesting there probably won't be much in the way of leaks. Fans who want updates will have to hope that Xbox Game Studios discuss it sometime next year.
