The world of Horizon Zero Dawn may be filled with dangerous and deadly machines, but they are not the only things you will find in the wild environments. Alongside the metal machines, you will find a few animals that seem to be thriving there. As well as them adding to the immersive feeling of the game, the animals also provide a use.

Like machines, animals contain resources that you can use for a variety of purposes throughout the game. In the base game, you will see a variety of animals from fish and geese to rats and rabbits.

What Are Animal Resources?

Animal resources are the items that you can acquire from an animal once you have hunted it. The resources can range from anything such as different types of meat to skins that are specific to that animal. Every resource that you can get from an animal will always be useful to have.

The resources are most useful when they are used to craft health potions. Potions are always useful to have on you to get you out of sticky situations where medicinal plants will not be fast enough. Also, some resources can be used to upgrade your carry capacity for ammunition or they can upgrade how many outfits you can carry.

The Best Places To Find Animal Resources

The top spot to find animals is within The Embrace. It's fair to assume that because the Nora Braves protect the Sacred Land from outside machines, the wildlife here has had a better chance of survival over any other places on the map. You can find all of the animals in the game within The Embrace and they often reward you with good resources. However, if you visit here after that point in the storyline, you will struggle to find any animals within the gates.

The next best spot to find animals is in the dense forest areas on the right-hand side of the map (the part that has The Embrace and Devil's Thirst). Within this environment, you will find almost every single animal but if you want to find fish, geese, and rats you will need to stick to the edges of the bodies of water here. Rats are easier to find on River Banks near Devil's Thirst and so are fish.

The dense forests are generally a good area to stick to across the map. There are plenty of areas like this and they are the best places to find wildlife. It's hard, but not impossible, to find wildlife in dusty desert environments too.
