Isaac Clarke Will Be Fully Voiced By Gunner Wright In Dead Space Remake

During a special Dead Space livestream, EA Motive has revealed that protagonist Isaac Clarke will be fully voiced in the upcoming remake. Actor Gunner Wright, who played the character in Dead Space 2 and 3, will return for the new title.

The team behind the new Dead Space held a showcase on Twitch, offering an early look at the game and revealing a bunch of new details – including an improved Necromorph dismemberment system. Another one is the news of Isaac Clarke receiving a voice in contrast to the original game, where the protagonist kept quiet during the whole story.

While some of the fans might be surprised by this decision, it is worth noting that Clarke eventually was given a voice later on in the series. Follow-ups Dead Space 2 and Dead Space 3 have a much more traditional narrative with the character fully involved in the story and the dialogues. Gunner Wright, who gave his voice to the character, was invited by the team for the remake without hesitation, as he is Isaac Clarke.

Wright also appeared during the livestream, announcing he will reprise his iconic role as he “has something to say.” The actor can’t wait to suit up in the RIG (Resource Integration Gear) again as the space engineer on board USG Ishimura. Wright joked he’ll try his best to keep Isaac alive, although he’s got a feeling that some of us might want to keep him from doing that.

Creative director Roman Campos-Oriola and senior producer Philippe Ducharme have spoken briefly about the new feature, allowing them to re-introduce Isaac Clarke for the veterans and the franchise’s newcomers alike. Early on, the devs decided that Clarke needs his voice for the remake, but two key rules were established to maintain the isolated atmosphere of the original.

Therefore, Clarke will speak only when he’s referred to in the remake, or when the situation would feel weird if the protagonist won’t comment on it. Otherwise, the character will remain silent — so that he never distracts you or breaks your immersion in Dead Space.

As far as we learned from the show, the game is still in the early stages of development — the work on the whole project began less than a year before the official announcement. The devs did not share the release window for Dead Space, so it’ll be a while before Isaac Clarke’s return.
