A new developer diary for Jurassic World Evolution 2 has been released, the team at Frontier talking and revealing more about the authenticity of the story campaign and the new Chaos Theory mode.
Jurassic World Evolution 2 picks up after the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the most recent Jurassic World film, in which dinosaurs escaped captivity and are now running around all over the world. The campaign’s drive shifts away from creating super-bitey theme parks as in the original game, and rather toward working with the US Department of Fish and Wildlife to remove the danger of dinosaurs from the open world, but to do this by capturing and then containing them in facilities.
This will take place with a wide array of characters guiding you, including the film protagonists Claire and Owen, as well as some of Frontier’s original characters from the first game. Meanwhile, you’ll be dealing with a wider variety of environmental issues, such as sand and snowstorms in different parts of North America, and having to work out how to handle new ailments for the dinos.
Meanwhile, the new ‘Chaos Theory’ mode that lets you play through ‘what if?’ scenarios set throughout the narrative of the film franchise. It’s something that Frontier has already dabbled with through the Jurassic World Evolution Aftermath expansion pack, taking us back to the aftermath of the first film. That idea has been broadened so that there’s a new scenario that ties into each of the Jurassic Park franchise films, whether that’s to create a new theme park or a facility.
The example given takes inspiration from The Lost World: Jurassic Park (to use the thoroughly dumb title the studio settled on for this sequel). In this scenario, you’re charged with succeeding where the original park failed, while also doing so on the US mainland with a park just outside San Diego. Can you do so without a T-Rex running around a strangely empty cityscape?
You won’t have too long to wait in order to find out. Jurassic World Evolution 2 will be coming out on 9th November 2021 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC.
