Marvel’s Avengers Sees Massive Player Spike During Free Weekend

It seems the free weekend is paying off for the Marvel’s Avengers game, as Steam shows that there’s been a massive player spike this weekend. Players received access to the single-player campaign as well as newly added content. Additionally, if they decide to purchase the game when the free weekend is up, all their progress will carry over. This tactic seems to be working well for Crystal Dynamics, as you can see on Steam’s chart below.

Part of what may also be contributing is the timing of the Black Panther expansion launch date. We knew previously that War for Wakanda would be coming to Marvel’s Avengers, but the expansion was given a launch date of August 17 in-line with this free weekend event. War for Wakanda will be free for everyone who has the main game, so keep that in mind if you’re on the fence about purchasing.

The War for Wakanda expansion will include new solo or multi player Drop Zones and Threat Sector missions, new enemies, new environments, the Royal Palace Outpost, and more. It’s been stated that this expansion is adding the most content to Marvel’s Avengers since its launch.

You can also still take advantage of the streaming event in which streamers are playing Marvel’s Avengers to celebrate the free weekend. The goal of many of the streamers is to aid new players in getting used to the game, and you can find the schedule for it here.
