Metal Slug Tactics is coming to the Nintendo Switch in 2022. It’s also going to release on Steam in 2022, but yesterday’s gameplay reveal during the Nintendo Indie Showcase sort of wanted to focus on the Switch side of the game rather than the PC side.
The 45-second trailer not only gave us a release window for Metal Slug Tactics, but it also showed us many facets of the game not already revealed in the announcement trailer. We got to see the character select screen where you’ll be able to build your squad using characters from previous Metal Slug games (namely Marco, Fio, Tarma, and Eri), and then send them to battle against the forces of the evil mastermind Donald Morden.

There are tanks and mechs from the previous Metal Slug games to power up your squad, as well as power-ups, supply drops, air raids, and special attacks to unleash after filling up your adrenaline bar. There are also hostages to rescue, and the map unfurls in giant blocks as the team approaches the edges of their current battlefield.
And right at the end, we get to see the giant cobra tank boss from Metal Slug 2 and Metal Slug X. Aeshi Nero, as the boss is called, is technically a massive excavation machine, but it's pressed into combat service after The Peregrine Falcons close in the Rebel Faction’s Egyptian base.
Expect this giant snake tank to wield lasers, missiles, and some sort of doomsday weapon in Metal Slug tactics.
Besides Metal Slug, yesterday's Nintendo Indie Showcase brought news on a whole slew of games coming to the platform. Loop Hero will arrive on Switch later this year, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk will be a timed Switch exclusive arriving in 2022, and Axion Verge 2 got a surprise Switch release announcement. And don't forget about Necrobarista: Final Pour, which also came out on Switch yesterday.
