Mountain Dew Reveals New Limited Edition Flamin’ Hot Flavor

Mountain Dew has been an iconic drink for gamers for years now, even before the 2019 debut of the “Game Fuel” energy drink. Since then, the Mountain Dew brand has worked in collaboration with various gaming companies and events, adding to its ever-expanding popularity as a soft drink. Just this year, PepsiCo has released two new flavors, including Baja Flash and Baja Punch, both of which received mixed reviews from critics. But without a doubt one of the most bizarre mash-ups of flavors goes to the most recent announcement: Mountain Dew Flamin’ Hot.

As expected, the new Flamin’ Hot edition combines the traditional Mountain Dew flavor with the heat of Frito-Lay's Flamin' Hot Cheetos. It's not the first time that Mountain Dew has been mixed with a brand of chips, but it's certainly an odd choice for a new drink. The official advertisement describes the combination as the “most extreme taste experience yet,” and in a recent press release, the senior director of marketing, Matt Nielsten, claimed it to be the "most provocative" flavor from the company ever.

MTN DEW created the first-ever beverage combining the sweet, citrus flavor of DEW with the spicy, kicked up flavor of FLAMIN’ HOT for the most extreme taste experience yet. Enjoy this exclusive DEW while supplies last.

In addition to the spicy-sweet collaboration, PepsiCo is also partnering with Broken Promises to produce exclusive Flamin' Hot memorabilia, specifically apparel such as shirts and hoodies. Those who are subscribed to the Broken Promises app will receive early access to sales, starting on September 3. Non-subscribers will be able to purchase merchandise the following day, on September 4. For other unique Mountain Dew items, such as the bizarre Mountain Dew body pillow, fans can check out the official DEW site.

So far, fans are wary of this strange mix of flavors, and likely for good reason. A combination of citrus with spice is a difficult flavor to sell. It's hard to say whether the drink will pack a lot of heat, or just have a bit of spice. But it isn't the strangest mash-up with Mountain Dew. Fans have created plenty of strange monstrosities with the soft drink, including Mountain Dew flavored ramen. Like everything in the world, there is likely someone out there that is dying to try this combination.

Unfortunately, for those hoping to pick up the latest flavor at their local convenience store, the Flamin’ Hot edition is only available by order through the official Mountain Dew website. Supplies are limited at this time, though there is no announcement for when the flavor will be off the market. For now, anyone that's brave enough to feel the burn can purchase the new flavor in the form of 6-packs on August 31, while supplies last.
