New Life Is Strange: True Colors Trailer Shows Off Alex’s Powers

Life is Strange: True Colors is out next month on September 10, but developer Deck Nine still has plenty to share. During Future's Gamescom event, True Colors debuted a new trailer demonstrating Alex's powers of empathy.

True Colors' Alex Chen hones special powers, just like other Life is Strange protagonists before her. In Deck Nine's new footage, we see Alex visit an older florist in Haven Springs. While the woman waves goodbye to Alex, her aura reveals that everything isn't okay.

Using her powers, True Colors' protagonist can see the rush of emotions the florist describes as just an "elderly moment," but Alex knows better. Instead of leaving, she stays, choosing to help the woman work through her anxiety.

It's a touching moment, taking a series known for its vulnerability and expanding upon that in thoughtful ways. Going into True Colors, Deck Nine has already revealed that Alex gains this ability after the tragic death of her brother. This moment happens in chapter two, when she's begun to settle into the town and embarks on her mission to try and figure out what happened to her sibling. We've seen brief looks at Alex's abilities before, but this scene gives us a deeper dive.

Life is Strange: True Colors is launching on PC and all consoles, but the Nintendo Switch version of the game has been delayed. Deck Nine has also shared a longer tour of her home, Haven Springs, where True Colors is set to unravel.

While True Colors is on the way, the collection for the first Life is Strange has seen a bit of a delay. The remastered edition of Life is Strange, which includes its Before the Storm prequel, is now set to launch in early 2022. Deck Nine's decision was made to prioritize its team's workload, and will instead deliver a DLC to True Colors on the remastered edition's original day.
