Niche Release Recap for October 2022

With September over with and many notable launches with titles such as Splatoon 3 and Valkyrie Elysium. It’s now time for October to shine and there are some real solid games coming out during this month.

Given the variety in the type of games coming out, chances are there is something for everyone in our list and it’s unlikely this month will disappoint.

Dragon Ball The Breakers

1. Dragon Ball: The Breakers

Dragon Ball: The Breakers is a take on the Dead by Daylight formula. Only except instead of dealing with famous characters from popular horror franchises. Players will take on the powerful villains of the Dragon Ball franchise.

Most characters you can play as are the nameless normal people of Earth, though notable characters such as Bulma, Oolong, and even the farmer with a shotgun make appearances in this asymmetrical multiplayer game.

Dragon Ball: The Breakers is set to launch on October 14th for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC (via Steam).

The Last Oricru

2. The Last Oricru

For those looking for another souls-like experience should check out The Last Oricru, an action RPG which plays similar to the likes of Darks Souls and Elden Ring. Of course, some other features they tout include a focus on player choices affecting the story along with co-op.

The Last Oricru will be available on October 13th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam).

A Plague Tale Requiem

3. A Plague Tale: Requiem

A Plague Tale: Requiem is a sequel to the hit title, A Plague Tale: Innocence. This new game continues the story of Amicia and Hugo de Rune, 6 months after the events of the first title as they attempt to cure younger brother Hugo’s strange blood disease.

Like with the first game, players will have to use the concept of light to solve puzzles and survive against the hordes of rats spreading the dark plague. All the while they flee from the French Inquisition.

A Plague Tale: Requiem is slated to come out on October 18th for Nintendo Switch (via cloud), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store).

Ghostbusters Spirits Unleashed

4. Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed

Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed with Ghostbusters meets Gmod’s prop hunt in this asymmetrical multiplayer title where players can either assume the role as a titular ghostbuster or as a ghost. The former’s job is simple, hunt down the ghost before too much mayhem is caused using famous tools from the movies such as the proton pack.

Meanwhile, if one plays as a ghost, then they’ll be able to possess objects and terrorize locations. This game can also be played in cooperative fashion against an AI ghost as well.

Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed will launch on October 18th for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (exclusively on Epic Games Store).

Mario Rabbids Sparks Of Hope

5. Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope is the sequel to Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, which is a series that has the famous characters of Mario teaming up with the Rabbids in an action adventure tactical strategy game.

For the latest entry in this subfranchise, Mario must team up with the Rabbids once more as they travel through the galaxy to stop the evil Cursa. This time they’ll find new allies in the form of new Rabbids and even former foe Bowser himself.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope comes exclusively for Nintendo Switch on October 20th.

Scorn

6. Scorn

What month of October release would be complete without a real terrifying horror game? And unlike the aforementioned Ghostbusters, Scorn aims to gives players a nightmarish world based off of the works of H. R. Giger.

Players will have to survive in a world with monsters more than ready to kill them. Fortunately they’ll have tools to aid in their fight to survive in the form of biomechanical weapon which attach to the players themselves. Despite being tools that lend a hand, even these weapons look terrifying.

Scorn will be available October 14th, which was pushed up from their original October 21th release, for Xbox Series X|S and PC (via Steam, GOG, and Epic Games Store).

Star Ocean The Divine Force

7. Star Ocean: The Divine Force

Star Ocean: The Devine Force is the latest in Square Enix’s long running Star Ocean franchise. This new title follows Raymond, who finds himself marooned on a underdeveloped alien planet quite similar to Earth. The game, just like others before it, is a mix of sci-fi mixed with the allure of a fantasy world.

Combat runs in real time as an action RPG, but there’s a new gimmick in the form of D.U.M.A which affects combat for players as they dodge, weave, and blindside attack to get the upper hand in battle.

Star Ocean: The Devine Force is slated to launch October 27th for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam).

8. Bayonetta 3

Naturally what might be the biggest launch for this month is the newest entry in the Bayonetta series with Bayonetta 3. This new game will follow the sexy titular protagonist as she faces a new threat known as the Singularity. Something where if she fails against it will mean certain doom for multiple worlds.

She will be joined by allies new and old, one of which is a witch-in-training by the name of Viola who will also be a playable character. And the gameplay will most assuredly be an improvement of the hack-and-slash combat the series is known for. Of course, there’ll also be plenty of hot moments from our female lead as well.

Bayonetta 3 is set to launch exclusively on Nintendo Switch on October 28th.
