Fans of Travis Touchdown's homicidal antics are anxiously anticipating the soon-to-be-released No More Heroes 3, which is set to hit the Nintendo Switch storefront on August 27, 2021. But while the prior games in the series have been around ten hours long, game director Goichi Suda has revealed it takes much longer to save the world this time around.
Following an eleven-year hiatus since the last numbered entry, it came as a huge surprise to many fans when it was announced that another follow-up was in the works. No More Heroes 3 symbolizes Travis Touchdown's return to Santa Destroy, complete with end of the world stakes and sword-wielding assassins for players to take on.

Furthermore, the action-adventure hack and slash video game marks a return to the open-world format last seen in the first game, offering players the opportunity to explore an expansive militaristic metropolitan battleground. Here, various activities such as part-time mini-games and defense missions can be undertaken. With all of this additional content, director Goichi Suda revealed to GameXplain that No More Heroes 3 is the longest entry in the series, taking approximately fifteen to twenty hours to complete the main story alone.
The story this time around involves Aliens invading a sprawling city. Turning a once peaceful island into an expansive militaristic metropolitan battleground. With no one to oppose them, the extraterrestrials decide to host an Intergalactic Superhero Ranking Tournament to decide earth's fate. With no one else stepping up to the mantle, the video games and anime-obsessed Travis Touchdown must wield his beam katana once more and fight his way to the top to save the world.
But keeping with what made the prior titles such a hit with gamers, the developers have made sure to highlight the refined hack-and-slash gameplay which was previously showcased during Nintendo's Treehouse Livestream at E3 2021. As many fans noted, the melee combat appears fluid, punchy, and satisfying; plus, the new moveset make the attack system even more varied than No More Heroes 2.
On top of the playtime reveal, Suda expressed interest in working with filmmaker James Gunn to adapt one of his IPs to film. Although, even Suda acknowledges that this will not be possible anytime soon since Gunn's schedule is "most likely full for the next ten years." Speaking of which, after receiving acclaim from moviegoers for The Suicide Squad, it seems DC also wants Gunn for their future projects.
